Mount Kenya University’s Thika main campus in Kiambu County recently became the hub of a life-saving endeavor as it hosted a National Blood Donation Drive from February 12th to 16th, 2024. The initiative aimed to tackle the ongoing need for blood donations, crucial for medical emergencies and treatments.
The drive witnessed an overwhelming response from various quarters, notably the students of Mount Kenya University Health Students Association (MKUHSA). Two distinguished groups, one from Murang’a and the other from Thika Satellite, took charge of organizing and conducting the donation drive.
With strategic planning, the drive unfolded simultaneously at two different locations: the chancellor’s tower grounds for the Thika group and the convention center grounds for the Murang’a group. This arrangement ensured easy access for donors and facilitated seamless operations throughout the week.
The statistics speak volumes about the generosity and commitment of the participants. A total of 640 units were collected from the two groups.
Central to the success of the event was the active involvement of MKUHSA members, who tirelessly coordinated logistical aspects, ensuring a smooth experience for both donors and recipients.
Adding prestige to the occasion was the presence of First Daughter Charlene Ruto, who graced the event as the chief guest. Her official launch of the blood donation drive at the Mwai Kibaki Convention Centre on February 14th underscored the significance of the initiative and inspired others to participate.
The National Blood Donation Drive at Mount Kenya University Thika main campus stood as a shining example of community solidarity and compassion. The remarkable turnout and the selflessness displayed by all involved not only saved lives but also highlighted the spirit of service deeply ingrained in the Mount Kenya University community. Such initiatives serve as a reminder of the collective power to make a difference in society’s well-being.
