The just concluded MKUSA elections may be captured by an excerpt in one of Chinua Achebe’s famous works – Things Fall Apart –
“The drums beat and the flutes sang and the spectators held their breath. Amalinze was a wily craftsman, but Okonkwo was as slippery as a fish in water. Every nerve and every muscle stood out on their arms, on their backs and their thighs, and one almost heard them stretching to breaking point. In the end, Okonkwo threw the Cat.”
Elections are one of the most pompous campus events. Marked with the usual political atmosphere which is brought to a naught on election day. The songs, ululations, political rivalry, not forgetting the razzmatazz and pockets of students in every corner of the university shouting his/her favorite candidate’s name hoarse.
The new MKUSA council stretched every muscle and fibre to defeat their opponents in elections which were held on – 7th February 2025, at Indoor Arena overseen by electoral commissioners. It’s this assembly of thought, actions and influence that birthed MKUSA Council 2025/2026 regime who were sworn in on Friday, 23rd February 2025.
Notably, this year’s leadership is uniquely shaped by a strong representation from the medical fraternity, underscoring a commitment to diligence, discipline, and a service-first approach. As the students hit neck deep into the semester, they will be looking forward to service. Every newly elected council undergoes an induction training to prepare them for their new roles.
