The Mount Kenya University Medical Laboratory Science Students Association (MKUMLSA), in collaboration with relevant health stakeholders, successfully organized a four-day blood donation drive from Tuesday 18th – 21st February 2025 at CT GROUNDS. Aimed at promoting voluntary blood donation and addressing the demand for blood in healthcare facilities, the exercise received overwhelming response from students, staff, and the wider university community.
The total number of pints collected over the four days was as follows:
Day 1: 74 pints
Day 2: 58 pints
Day 3: 66 pints
Day 4: 62 pints
Total: 260 pints
This remarkable achievement reflects the spirit of solidarity and willingness to save lives within our institution.
Leading the charge was none other than the President MKUMLSA Wangila MAURICE , President- MKUMLSA who observed “While the turnout was commendable, more effort should be put into sensitizing “ Wangila MAURICE , President- MKUMLSA
“We extend our sincere gratitude to Mount Kenya University for facilitating the event and ensuring the smooth flow of activities. I’d like to appreciate Dr. Waithaka Stanley, Head of Department, Medical Laboratory Science, for his unwavering support and encouragement, Dr. Mary Wangui, MKUMLSA Matron, for her guidance and coordination in ensuring the safety and well-being of donors” he noted.
The association President also encouraged more turnout during similar exercises and thanked “The College of Health Sciences students and all other volunteers who dedicated their time and effort to making this initiative a success”
The blood donation drive was a resounding success, and we look forward to making it an even bigger and more impactful event in the future. Let us continue to embrace the spirit of giving and making a difference in society.
