Public Relations students of Mount Kenya University emerged position three after defeating five giant universities in the hotly contested PRSK bootcamp competition at St Paul’s university on the 15th of November, 2023.
All the 8 Universities present were, tasked with comimg up with a campaign for the locals to understand the action of climate change and how it affects sustainable development. MKU was well represented by Brian Gitonga, Victor Oranja, Nelly Kithinji and Mueni Mwema, who presented their campaign “MAZINGIRA BORA, UHAI BORA” which was to be executed in Garissa, Tana River and Kitui. The campaigned scooped a whooping third place ahead of USIU, Riara university, St Paul’s university, Pan African Christian University and Rongo university.
The event themed ‘PR for a greener tomorrow’ was graced by Ruth Titwa (communications Manager Living Goods Kenya), Peter Mwaura (Corporate communications manager KCB group), Evelyne Ssero (Senior manager sustainability Safaricom PLC), Maureen Mambo (Director national brand development, marketing and communication KEPROBA) and Cleophas Agwanda (Marketing manager IMAX Kenya) who were also the Judges.
The students also got a chance to be mentored on different aspects of public relations such as Marketing, Branding and Sustainability. The students were able to learn about the power of team work and how to express themselves in the shortest time possible.
The event was a success thanks to Mount Kenya University, Journalism department which was represented by Dr. Daniel Oloo Ong’ong’a who accompanied the students alongside Mr. Daniel Kimondo, the MKU clubs Coordinator.
