Mount Kenya University PR Club took part in Girls Mentorship to build a bright future

It is believed that when a girl is empowered, the whole society is. On Tuesday, the 13th of February 2024, the PR club of MKU went to Sacred Heart Nga’raria Girls High school in Murang’a to empower the form one class of more than 400 students, while also giving them some tips on how to deal with high school life.

The subtle topics covered in the talk included: Discipline, obscure promises of transferring, how to not carry family issues to school, Peer pressure, cleanliness, issues of time management and how to handle the feeling of missing home. The form one girls admitted that those were some of the challenges they were going through and our team of eloquent speakers who were Mueni Mwema, Victor Oranja, Nuru Ali, Nelly Kithinji, Dan Boke, Kelvin Kimondo, June Makena and Francis Kakai dispensed their counsel as the girls listened meticulously.

Victor Oranja talked about discipline which is a core prerequisite for anyone to succeed in life. He gave the girls an example of himself and how he has managed to maneuver till date. Nuru Ali talked to the ladies about peer pressure and ways in which they could avoid it. The girls were able to identify the various forms of peer pressure and how to deal with them in the right way as they grow. Francis Kakai talked to the girls about the importance of engaging themselves in co- curricular activities while in high school, how it helps one identify and grow their hobbies, as it assists them, fight homesick. The rest of the speakers also dispensed wisdom to the young girls, and urged them to continue being focused so as to join institutions of higher learning like the Mount Kenya University.

The team was able to learn that a majority of the students aspired to join Mount Kenya University to pursue their various dream careers. From how every speaker expressed themselves, the girls confirmed that indeed MKU is one university that unlocks infinite possibilities.The girls showed there deference and gratitude during and after the talk from how they asked questions and interacted one on one with the orators. By investing in the future of girls, through mentorship, the PR Club of MKU is not only improving their lives, but also the lives of everyone around them. With each girl they empower, the club is creating a ripple effect of change that will be felt for generations to come.
